  4. # How to read logs
  5. ## Walkabout example
  6. We first create three connections (mempool, consensus and query) to the
  7. application (running `kvstore` locally in this case).
  8. ```
  9. I[10-04|13:54:27.364] Starting multiAppConn module=proxy impl=multiAppConn
  10. I[10-04|13:54:27.366] Starting localClient module=abci-client connection=query impl=localClient
  11. I[10-04|13:54:27.366] Starting localClient module=abci-client connection=mempool impl=localClient
  12. I[10-04|13:54:27.367] Starting localClient module=abci-client connection=consensus impl=localClient
  13. ```
  14. Then Tendermint Core and the application perform a handshake.
  15. ```
  16. I[10-04|13:54:27.367] ABCI Handshake module=consensus appHeight=90 appHash=E0FBAFBF6FCED8B9786DDFEB1A0D4FA2501BADAD

  19. ```
  20. After that, we start a few more things like the event switch, reactors,
  21. and perform UPNP discover in order to detect the IP address.
  22. ```
  23. I[10-04|13:54:27.374] Starting EventSwitch module=types impl=EventSwitch

  38. ```
  39. Notice the second row where Tendermint Core reports that "This node is a
  40. validator". It also could be just an observer (regular node).
  41. Next we replay all the messages from the WAL.
  42. ```

  46. ```
  47. "Started node" message signals that everything is ready for work.
  48. ```
  49. I[10-04|13:54:30.391] Starting RPC HTTP server on tcp socket 0.0.0.0:26657 module=rpc-server

  51. ```
  52. Next follows a standard block creation cycle, where we enter a new
  53. round, propose a block, receive more than 2/3 of prevotes, then
  54. precommits and finally have a chance to commit a block. For details,
  55. please refer to [Consensus

  97. ## List of modules
  98. Here is the list of modules you may encounter in Tendermint's log and a
  99. little overview what they do.
  100. - `abci-client` As mentioned in [Application Development Guide](../app-dev/app-development.md), Tendermint acts as an ABCI
  101. client with respect to the application and maintains 3 connections:
  102. mempool, consensus and query. The code used by Tendermint Core can
  103. be found [here](https://github.com/tendermint/tendermint/tree/master/abci/client).
  104. - `blockchain` Provides storage, pool (a group of peers), and reactor
  105. for both storing and exchanging blocks between peers.
  106. - `consensus` The heart of Tendermint core, which is the
  107. implementation of the consensus algorithm. Includes two
  108. "submodules": `wal` (write-ahead logging) for ensuring data
  109. integrity and `replay` to replay blocks and messages on recovery
  110. from a crash.
  111. - `events` Simple event notification system. The list of events can be
  112. found
  113. [here](https://github.com/tendermint/tendermint/blob/master/types/events.go).
  114. You can subscribe to them by calling `subscribe` RPC method. Refer
  115. to [RPC docs](./rpc.md) for additional information.
  116. - `mempool` Mempool module handles all incoming transactions, whenever
  117. they are coming from peers or the application.
  118. - `p2p` Provides an abstraction around peer-to-peer communication. For
  119. more details, please check out the
  120. [README](https://github.com/tendermint/tendermint/blob/master/p2p/README.md).
  121. - `rpc` [Tendermint's RPC](./rpc.md).
  122. - `rpc-server` RPC server. For implementation details, please read the
  123. [doc.go](https://github.com/tendermint/tendermint/blob/master/rpc/lib/doc.go).
  124. - `state` Represents the latest state and execution submodule, which
  125. executes blocks against the application.
  126. - `types` A collection of the publicly exposed types and methods to
  127. work with them.
